December 23, 2015 - Three Tornadoes in the Mississippi Delta
Proof that there’s really no such thing as ‘tornado season’, a powerful system caused an outbreak of tornadoes across Northern Mississippi. The day was given a Moderate Risk designation with a 15% hatch for significant tornadoes.
It was also a rarity for me as I was chasing alone. My target was Cleveland, Mississippi and as I rolled through town storms were already screaming across the river to the northeast at 70mph! I moved north to the town of Shelby, as the first tornado warning of the day was issued on the storm heading directly towards town.
The storm developed a wall cloud as it moved through town. I decided to reposition to the east since the storm was moving so fast. I drove several miles as the storm started to pull away from me. I finally hit my road north as the storm produced its first tornado. You can read the rest here.
May 25, 2015 - Ugly Tornadoes, Devastating Flooding, Otherworldly Mammatus
We targeted Leander, Texas for the day and by late afternoon a tornado warned supercell had its sights set on town. We watched the storm from a hill north of town and observed it was an extreme HP (high precipitation mode). We paced with it ahead of the notch to Georgetown, where we observed a brief spin up tornado.
Storms began training south of Williamson County, so we took Highway 95 to Taylor, Texas encountering major flooding along the way. Over 9 inches of rain fell in the matter of a few hours and roads turned to rivers. We covered the flooding in town for a few hours before calling it a day. Once we left Taylor, the mammatus were obviously going to be incredible, so we found a nice scene to shoot them from.
May 7, 2015 - Baseball Size Hail and Four Tornadoes in Krum, Texas
We targeted west of the Dallas Fort Worth metro on a day with a large Slight Risk and small 5% tornado probability. We watched a discrete storm initially produce a funnel but the storm lost out as many storms went up in the immediate environment.
One appeared to clearly start to become the dominant supercell and had a tornado warning issues. We drove through a hail core containing isolated baseball size hail, but did not break any glass.
State police had Highway 380 shut down but allowed us through to continue chasing. We saw four tornadoes around the Krum, Texas area and got very close to a shapeshifting tornado at dark.
