Perseid Meteor
Shower Workshop
ALPINE, Texas
August 10-12, 2024

The Perseid Meteor Shower is hands down one of the most anticipated meteor showers of 2024. This year, the moon sets fairly early and will be in a waxing crescent stage. This means there will be almost zero light to interfere with viewing meteors, which peak on the nights of August 11-12.

The skies in the Texas Big Bend are so dark, that fireballs light the ground a brilliant turquoise-green when large chunks of cosmic dust burn up in the atmosphere above. Smoke trails left behind glow brilliantly for several seconds.

When you read articles stating 150 meteors per hour could be visible, they aren't talking about near your city, they're talking about dark sky spots like Big Bend.
